RECIPE
Homemade granola bars
By Adam Frost
This is a recipe that my wife received from her roommate in university so we’ve been making it for a while.
There are a lot of granola bar recipes out there and I’ve researched many because for some reason I have some crazy need to prove that my wife’s version isn’t the best version. So far, I’ve failed. Rest assured this recipe may get updated in the future.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 2/3 cup of some kind of seed butter like sunflower seeds (original called for peanut butter but our kids’ school won’t allow it)
- 2/3 cup of honey
- ½ cup of melted butter
- 3 cups of rolled oats (quick oats are fine)
- ½ cup of unsweetened coconut
- ½ cup of sunflower seeds
- ½ cup of raisins
- 1/3 cup of wheat germ
- 2 tbsp of sesame seeds
- ½ cup of chocolate chips
In a bowl mix well the first four ingredients. In another bowl mix together the remaining ingredients. (If you don’t have one or two ingredients, just replace with more of another, hint one of the chosen bowls needs to be able to fit all the ingredients). In whichever bowl can handle it, combine all the ingredients together. Then press into a greased 9” x 13” pan and bake for 20 minutes @ 350 degrees.
Let cool completely before attempting to cut into squares or rectangles. I have been known to not wait and instead spoon loose hot granola bar immediately from the oven into my mouth, but you undoubtedly have more self-control than I do.
