Simple summer smoothies
By Ariane Signer
As a mom of a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old, smoothies are a pretty big deal in our home. I’ve been making my kids smoothies since they were babies transitioning to solid foods, and now they’re old enough to help me make them.
I have a very easy 4-ingredient base recipe that I use, and occasionally we add some extra protein or greens to make our smoothies healthier.
The fun thing about smoothies is that you can really pick and choose your ingredients based on personal taste and season. The yogurt can also be swapped out for a dairy-free alternative for those with intolerances or vegan diets. Oat milk and a few ice cubes can do the trick!
Easy smoothie base
MAKES 4 SMALL SERVINGS
Ingredients
- 2 cups of frozen fruit of your choice (strawberry, mango, blueberry)
- 1 ½ cups of plain Greek yogurt
- 1 banana
- ¾ cups orange juice
Add-ons
Add one of these healthy extras to boost your smoothie’s nutritional value.
- ½ cup baby spinach
- Chia seeds (sprinkled on top)
- ½ an avocado
If you have extra smoothie mix left over, pour it into a popsicle tray for a future snack or dessert.
